Митхун просто излучает волны привлекательности, у него дикий животный магнетизм (и самое интересное,с возрастом это не уходит), такой что просто крышу сносит

‘Disco Dancer’ is back in Mumbai, to help sons with their careers

The ‘Disco Dancer’ is back in Mumbai. Mithun Chakraborty, who had settled in Ooty after a flourishing career in Mumbai in the ‘80s, has moved - bag, baggage, family and his entourage of canines in tow!

Says Mithun, “My elder son will soon make his debut in films, and my younger son Rimoh is studying direction in Mumbai. The move is mainly to facilitate their careers.
However, I’m never in Mumbai for long periods of time. My wife (Yogita Bali) is staying here with them; I am shooting outside Mumbai and travelling on work to different towns.”

The actor has renovated his sprawling bungalow in Madh Island and even plans to bring his chain of hotels Monarch to Mumbai.

Adds Mithun, “I am in negotiations for land (in Andheri East) right now. Let’s hope it all goes well. As it’s all in the very initial stages, it’s become mandatory for me to remain here for important meetings. I want to look over things first hand about the hotel.”

The actor is very happy with the encomiums that he has received for his performance in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Guru’ where he plays a communist editor-publisher. He is now looking forward to his next Hindi release Hansal Mehta’s ‘Raakh’, besides three Bengali films in Kolkata.

Has Mithun Come Home For Good?

The man who mysteriously moved out of Mumbai in the 80’s and settled down in the hills of Ooty where he built his own 5 star hotel, “The Monarch” and literally ruled Ooty like a monarch is slowly moving back to Mumbai again for reasons only known to him.

Mithun Chakraborty who was ones the number one individual income tax payer in the country and the most popular star among the masses after just one film “Disco Dancer” had reached his peak form. He was the most successful dancing star after Shammi Kapoor. He, infact started a one man school of dancing, a school which many other stars tried to follow but no one could succeed, not one of the stars could match his strides and steps. Mithun had reached a stage when he had 22 releases in a year, a record which no other stars has been able to break. He was called a “B Grade” actor and “ the poor man’s Amitabh Bachhan “. But the brand and the names did not matter to him, only success did and success came to him without making any gigantic efforts. He would have continued ruling and swaying the way he was. He was also the leader of the artists association who fought for the rights of the artist’s and helped in rasing the kind of funds that are still being used for the welfare of the artist, especially artists who have fallen on bad days. He had a lifestyle of his own. He had his own holiday home built at Mudh island which was more a resort for the number of dogs of all pedigree’s and from different parts of the world. He cared for dogs; he had entire staff including veterinarian and attendance who were specialist in taking care of dogs. He believed “kutta insane se bahut accha hota hain” (the Dog is much better than a human being). He was also and actor all the political parties wanted, one of which even claimed him to be its own “dhartiputra”. He apparently got involved with some unwanted and unlawful elements, which led to some serious tension in his life and career.

The tension kept mounting and he tried his best to keep out of Mumbai. Little bit anyone know that he was making a major move to move out of Mumbai- till he finally did. He left Mumbai with his wife, Yogeeta and children and made Ooty his home. He stopped accepting all film offers from Mumbai. The films he did were only the ones which had filmmaker who agreed to his condition that their films would be shot anywhere in the south and anywhere in the world but certainly not in Mumbai. There were many number of film makers who were willing to work according to his terms and condition. He was flooded with offers from small film makers and big from Mumbai and mostly from the south. They found making films with Mithun very economical. He gave them bulk dates. He charged them a reasonable prize. He was willing to work with any new actress and offered the filmmakers all kind of help and facilities anywhere in the south. And the films he did were ranked bad films but they did very good business in what are called “the interiors” and B and C centric centers. The producers were happy but the wave of happiness had no chance off lasting long and that was just what happened. Almost every film made Mithun now failed and Mithun was forced to do some fresh thinking for the future. He also had two think about his son Mimoh, who also wanted to be an actor in films made in Mumbai.He started by accepting two offers from Mumbai on a trial basis and found that he was accepted. He then started showing interest in Mumbai and made regular secret visits to the city and lived in a five star hotel without anyone knowing more about him. He continued coming to Mumbai till his son Mimoh was launched in his first film, with the only one. The love and affection showered by the industry, which gathered in full force to wish him, and his son well strengthened his resolve, which was still not made very open.

And Mithun has now made back the big move of moving back to Mumbai. He has renovated his bungalow in Mud Island. His entire family, which includes all his dogs, has shifted to Mumbai. His first priority is Mimoh’s career. Mimoh has two films completed and there are other offers coming but Mithun is being very cautious. He say he doesn’t want his son to suffer the trails and tribulations he faced when he first came to make it as an actor, a struggler who had no place to live and no guarantee about where the next meal will come from, a national Gold Medal winner who gave interviews to journalist like me only if promised that we would buy him a meal. Mithun is now open to some good offer himself but is in no haste to work only for the money.

According to very reliable sources Mithun has bought a huge track of land in Andheri, East in Mumbai where he plans to build another Monarch inspite of all the competition among hotels in Mumbai. That’s the magic of Mumbai, which attracted him more that thirty years ago.

Three-time National Award winning actor Mithun Chakraborty, who plays Abhishek Bachchan's foe and friend in the recently released Guru, says his son Mimoh has far better dancing skills than him.
Mimoh is all set to make his debut on the big screen with Jimmy.
"My son's film Jimmy should be ready by March. The title comes from one of my hit songs. Mimoh is not at all like me. He's his own person. And he's a much better dancer than I am. Don't believe me? Watch him when he comes on screen," Mithun told IANS in an interview.
The best thing that strikes you about the veteran actor is his warmth and humility. "I'm glad to be around for so long," he said.
Thankfully, no one is offering him father and brother roles in Bollywood.
"My new release Guru has me directed by Mani Ratnam. Do you know if things had gone well I'd have worked with him long ago! Yes, Mani had offered me a role in his Tamil film Iruvar (which Prashant finally played), which I didn't do because I was required to cut my hair."
"If I had cut my hair for one film, a dozen other producers would've committed suicide. Ratnam is a filmmaker who has been doing exemplary work for many years."
Mithun says Ratnam is focused.
"There was so much to learn from him. And I'm not saying that just because I have to.
"All my young co-stars, Abhishek, Aishwarya, Madhavan, Vidya, are lovely to work with."
Mithun feels technically, the film industry has come a long way.
"Yes, things have improved technically. The atmosphere is far more cutthroat. The media is far more active today. That makes the stars far more conscious of doing the right things."
He refuses to play the stereotypical father or brother.
"If I did any of those, my fans in Bengal would be very unhappy. Over there they still see me as a star or superstar. My recent Bengali films, like Hungama, are super hits. Bengali producers would throw a fit if I did fatherly roles in Hindi."
Mithun, who does three-four Bengali films every year, confesses he moved to Ooty in the 1980s for the sake of his family.
"Because I didn't want to die with an actor's shoes on. I've no ambitions to die as an actor. I want to secure my children's future. They shouldn't suffer when I'm not here. My daughter is only nine."

His next Hindi release is Hansal Mehta's Raakh. "It's a mafia story and I play an elder brother's role."
At the peak of his career Mithun decided to do a whole lot of substandard films.
"I don't know why you should call them sub-standard," he says, jumping to his movies' defence.
"Those were also very big hits, for example Jallad. How do you classify them as A-grade or B-grade? Sure, you can classify them as small-budgeted films. Any actor, who doesn't know the economics of filmmaking, is bound to flop.
"You need to know your market value. And if you consider yourself a big star in your head, then you'll fall flat on your face. Just because I'm a big star in Bengal I can't ask for Rs.5 million in Mumbai.
"To stay in the business I had to know the market and my own value in and out. That's how those films that you call substandard films happened. If I'm still around today it's because I did all those films... big small, good or bad or ugly."
Mithun's range extends from Mrinal Sen's Mrigaya to T.L.V. Prasad's Jallad.
"And let's not forget I play Ramkrishna Paramhans, which got me my third National Award. So, I've played everything, from disco dancer to jallad to god... Yes, it has been a long journey."
Incidentally, Mithun had done a film called Guru in the 1980s.
"And I had also done a Guru in Bengali. So, this is my third Guru. Both in the past have been very big hits. I'm sure this will be my third successful Guru... My god! Such a long journey...
"Any mistakes? See, the past is a burden that you carry. I don't think it helps you improve on your mistakes. The present and the future are what count. I don't believe in living in the past."
When asked about his landmark films, he said: "The three National Award winning films (Mrigaya, Tahader Katha and Ramakrishna)... then, of course, Disco Dancer, Pyar Jhutka Nahin, Hum Paanch, Mujrim... These gave me an actor's status and made me very popular."

I went to watch Guru with mixed feelings. At one side I was really excited to watch a Manirathnam movie but on the other side I consider both Ash and Abhishek "good for nothing". (Even after watching KANK where people praised Abhishek's so-called "performance").

Being an ardent Abhishek Bachchan and Ash hater, I am pleased to be proved wrong in such a decisive way! The thing which impressed me the most is the re-search done by Abhishek Bachchan for his role, and the hard work put in by him. His body posture, dialog delivery and facial expressions (something which I have never seen on his face). I never expected this... though I had a feeling after looking at the promos that Junior B has learnt a thing or two from Manirathnam... I didn't expect such a powerful performance by him. For the life of me I had never imagined that "this guy... who appears to be made of wood" will EVER be able to act.

Abhishek's acting leaves many of the so-called accomplished actors far behind. In many scenes somehow I was reminded of Nayakan... somehow...don't ask me why.

Mithun Chakarwarti's acting in the movie was priceless. I just loved his performance because he was given very less screen time as compared to Abhishek. Despite this, Mithun brings the character of Manikdasgupta alive. Very balanced ... very controlled and Very powerful performance. This is a rarity in Bollywood that someone can deliver a powerful performance with no histrionics and so less screen time. Hats off to Mithun Da.

The character played by Ash is an easy one. she plays the role of an independent woman, loving and devoted wife pretty well. Though this is an easy role (as compared to the others), it was still not as irritating as Ash's all other performances.

The characterization of the movie (as expected) was fantastic. Most mainstream Bollywood movies only have single dimensional characters. Our characters are either good or they are bad. Most characters in Bollywood follow a "template" which can be revenge, comedy or heroics.

Guru dares to be different in trying to bring shades of gray in the main character. Gurukant is not an anti-hero or a negative character. Throughout the movie he is most inpirational and appealing. Yet we know that he is doing wrong to go too-fast to grow his business.

As the movie itself puts it... in the end the audience is left wondering if he is a Genius or a Fraud. My opinion of him was that he is a corporate robinhood who steals from the government... but makes rich shareholders and profitable enterprise. I loved his character in the end.

There are plenty of tales in Bollywood about Rags-to-Riches but a tail of rising to the sky and falling to ground only to rise again is something which has never been seen.

I cannot thank Manirathnam enough for bring such a story and such a character to Bollywood. I wish he made movies more frequently for Bollywood.

The third thing which really made me clap during some of the scenes were the courage, strength and self belief of the character of Gurukant desai. The scene where he is lying half paralyzed with his lip drooping down... and he raises his hand asking the government officials to come well prepared was priceless.

In the end, I can say is Abhishek Bachchan and Mithun really rock in this movie. I think Guru will be quoted as an example of good performances in the years to come.

Guru was a great watch for me and I hope it is for you all well.

10/10. This is a way a movie should be made.

Я новенькая на вашем сайте (интернет подключила недавно), хотя стаж "Митхунистки" у меня уже больше 20 лет. До этого гостила на сайте Nadin. Кстати, в разделе Митхун-2 Соня цитировала мой мини-тест по поводу оценки внешности. Я и не думала этим заниматься, просто в одном месте увидела результат голосования на тему "самый красивый актер", результатом - Шах, была очень удивлена, но и решила подойти к делу, по возможности, профессионально.
Когда-то иногда смотрела индийские фильмы, потом, увидев Митхуна в разных фильмах, сделала для себя вывод: индийское кино и Митхун - это две большие разницы, при этом мнении и осталась.

Когда я говорила, что Митхун и индийское кино - это не одно и тоже, то имела в виду, что никогда не воспринимала индийские фильмы всерьез, так, развлекаловка с красивыми видами, примитивным сюжетом и очень длинными песнями, но, когда я смотрю Митхуна (даже в самых дебильных фильма типа Прасадовских), я ему ВЕРЮ, любуюсь им как очень талантливым художником. Кстати, это единственный актер (хотя в Индии есть и другие очень неплохие), фильмы которого можно смотреть подряд и это не утомляет (и это касается не только меня, но и многих моих знакомых).

Who’s been calling Mithunda?

Mithun Chakraborty was pleasantly surprised to get a call from Karan Johar’s mother Hiroo recently. Says Mithun,

“I’ve been getting compliments from everyone in the industry regarding my performance in Guru, but I was stunned when Karan’s mother called me up to say that she thought I was brilliant.”

And has Amitabh Bachchan complimented him on his performance yet? “He hasn’t told me directly but somebody told me that he liked my performance.”

We’re not surprised Mithunda. He’s barely had any time to praise anyone else apart from his baby!

In all the sound and fury of the Aishwarya Rai-Abhishek Bachchan engagement and their on-screen liaison in Guru, Mithun Chakraborty's over-the-top performance as a media baron has been overlooked. Not to worry, as Set Max is having a festival of Mithun's iconic films from Disco Dancer to Agnipath.
Fighting spirit
Talking about his 30 years in the industry, Mithun says: "It was 80 per cent hard work and 20 per cent fun. Stardom has not come easily. Life has not been a bed of roses. But if you keep on fighting, you'll definitely succeed."
Talking about Disco Dancer, which made him India's answer to John Travolta, the star says: "I gave my best effort and danced my heart out. The movie was made with a lot of hardships and on a low budget. It was destined to be a hit."
"I enjoy dancing but have never learnt it. I have been a great fan of Elvis Presley. I also drew inspiration from Travolta and Michael Jackson. I Indianised their movements. I used to dance for Durga Pooja in Kolkata and it was received well. So I knew I could do well as a dancer."
Mukul Anand's Agnipath, based on the Hollywood flick Scarface, had Mithun as Krishnan Iyer, the moral counterpoint to Amitabh Bachchan's gangster. Mithun says: "I used to stay as a paying guest at Sion Kohliwada. My roommate was from Kerala and I modelled the character on him." About the award he got for the film, he says: "I did not expect an award for my first film Mrigaya but surely did expect one for Agnipath. I knew with Amitji I could create a hit. I knew I had done a good job."
In Guru, Mithun plays a socialist, honest crusader. "Mani Ratnam felt I could play the role and I enjoyed doing it."

это неправда. журналистские штучки. есть миллион интервью, в которых Амит хвалит игру актеров, вплоть до Перизад Зорабии. и по телефону звонит, чтобы поздравить.
так что брехня все это.

ну вообще,как бы там ни было,но негласная конкуренция и не очень теплые отношения друг с другом - что есть,то есть...И то,что Амит тут смог выразить одобрение в его сторону - большой плюс...Пусть даже и не лично Мите,но все-таки...приятненько...

Судя по представленным снимкам (хотя есть и не совсем удачные), особенно с концерта, у Митхуна начался очередной приступ молодости, сколько же действительно ему лет?! кто-нибудь знает
