Abhishek opts out of 'Sholay' for Mani Ratnam

The real reason why Abhishek Bachchan has opted out of Ram Gopal Varma's "Sholay" is not moral but practical. The busy Bollywood star just couldn't give dates.

Those dates were committed to the inimitable Mani Ratnam. Yes, Abhishek Bachchan will be coming together with his "Yuva" director again for Ratnam's first film in the English language to be shot in London.

Both Abhishek and of course the ever-secretive Ratnam are tight-lipped about the project. Says Abhishek, "I can't say anything about this right now."

But a source close to the actor confirms, "The Abhishek-Mani Ratnam project is definitely on. It's a film that requires Abhishek to age from 16 to 60. Since he truly enjoyed working with Mani in 'Yuva' he was very keen to do so again.

"The only problem was the dates were clashing with Ram Gopal Varma's 'Sholay'. And since Abhishek is already doing two more films with Varma - 'Ek' and 'Sarkar 2' - both with his dad Amitabh Bachchan, he opted for Mani's film over Ramu's 'Sholay'."

Amitabh Bachchan is being cast as Gabbar Singh in the new-age 'gangsterised' version of Ramesh Sippy's classic "Sholay". Abhishek was to play Veeru - but now that is not happening.

Shah Rukh keeps chawl folks awake
Residents of Vinayak Vasudev Chawl, Chinchpokli, spent a sleepless night yesterday as the ‘underworld’ stormed its premises. There was chaos, excitement and even pin-drop silence as the don spent the night there.

The don is none other than Shah Rukh Khan, who is the lead actor in director Farhan Akhtar’s new film, Don — a remake of the popular Amitabh starrer.

From 8 pm to 4.30 am, the unit was busy shooting on the first-floor of the chawl at Bakra Wada. The one-storeyed building houses approximately 200 people, all of whom were asked to stay indoors and maintain silence during the shoot.

Tight security

As Shah Rukh and Boman Irani faced the camera, a group of 20 security guards worked on keeping the noise level at minimum. Raju, the chawl accountant, said, “The unit had booked the entire building for the shoot.

They asked everyone to stay indoors and maintain silence. No one was allowed to watch the shoot. Everyone was indoors.” He added, however, that a few fans managed to get a glimpse of their stars by standing close to the railway tracks.

Inconvenienced

While they returned home with a smile, Ramesh, a resident of the chawl, complained of inconvenience. “I had gone out for some work…when I returned, the shooting had commenced. The security guards didn’t allow me to get in. I kept telling them I live there, but they wouldn’t listen,” he complained.

The crew, however, enjoyed shooting at the chawl. “It was great fun working overnight at the chawl,” said Irani. Incidentally, the scene shot last night had Irani asking Shah Rukh, a chawl resident in the film, to step into the shoes of a formidable don.

Act with Shah Rukh Khan in 'Don'
Bollywood fans in Malaysia are agog with excitement as talent scouts are on the lookout for at least 1000 locals to act in new version of Don , which is going to be shot mostly in Malaysia.

So far two Malaysian artistes have been selected to star along side Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra in the remake of the 1978 hit which starred Amitabh Bachchan , Zeenat Aman and Pran .

Malaysian actor Shahruddin Thamby will play a police official in the new movie. The other Malaysian star is former singer Aman Shah, the location manager of Channel Ventures (M) Sdn Bhd Saiful Jabbar said.

Jabbar said more than 1000 extras would be needed for the movie adding that priority would be given to those who could speak fluent Hindi and English. He said Bollywood's Excel Entertainment Ltd and movie director Farhan Akhtar would have the final say on the selection.

The movie, to be shot 80 per cent in Malaysia, will be filmed around the tropical Langkawi Island as well as the towering Petronas towers here and the Jalan Masjid India area, which is the 'little India' of Kuala Lumpur.

Jabbar said at least 1000 persons were needed for one scene, which was to be shot in the Jalan Masjid India area.

Top Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan says remakes help retell great stories
Bollywood leading man Shah Rukh Khan says Indian filmmakers should take some lessons from Hollywood and remake more Hindu movie classics.

Khan has begun shooting a remake of the 1978 Don, playing a man who looks just like a mafia lord and secretly takes his place after the kingpin is killed by police. The scam unravels when the gang finds out.

"In Hollywood people remake films and they are appreciated," Khan said in an interview in Thursday's Mumbai Mirror newspaper. "They don't have as many prejudices as we have about reworking old films."

He said if a remake came after 20-25 years, the next generation can have a chance to enjoy a classic. The timeless quality of the old classic Devdas prompted him to act in a 2002 remake of the film, he said.

Khan played a young aristocrat in Devdas, a movie about doomed love between childhood sweethearts. "I felt the story needs to be told time and again, such stories are immortal," he said.

Khan has acted in some 50 movies, including blockbusters like Main Hoon Na (I'm Here), Kal Ho Naa Ho (Tomorrow May Never Come) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (Some Happiness, Some Sorrow).

The show won’t go on unless...
Going abroad and performing for the fellow Indians in the western countries has become an important part of their profession for Bollywood stars. The stars take like a month or so off and fly to U.K., US and Canada performing in almost twenty cities or so within a short span of thirty days. The audiences abroad who are crazy for these stars have a great time watching them perform live but the situation is not the same for the show organizers. It is true that organizing shows with Bollywood actors can be a quite profitable in monetary terms but then handling the star tantrums is a like a major task for the organizers.

On their trip to shows in foreign countries, the stars behave like spoiled brat taking the organizers for a ride. Not all the organizers readily admit this fact; the truth doesn’t cease to exist though.

Salman Khan who is one of the highest paid stars when it comes to performing abroad, generally makes news more for his offstage drama than onstage performance. There was one time that Salman set the fire alarm twice at London’s Brittania Hotel because he hated the place. He also, asked the airport authorities to address a particular actor and his actor girlfriend with some colourful words in Hindi, when their troupe was returning back from a show. Salman actually has a great fan following abroad but they apparently didn’t seem to like our Sallu Bhai’s signature act of going topless though. In fact, in during one such show show at San Francisco, a sardarji approached the show organizer Deepak Anand and yelled at him for Salman’s shirt removing act. And before Anand knew, the troupe was being attacked with tomatoes, eggs and cola cans.

Star tantrums often begin with the air tickets. Stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Sunny Deol demand to fly only in the first class of British Airways. Then there is Aamir Khan who personally supervises his baggage getting loaded and being received on landing. Well, the actor can’t really be blamed for that, since there have been many instances when the stars have reached the foreign country but their luggage hasn’t. Such situations land the stars in a big soup. For a particular show Fardeen Khan landed without his bags and the poor guy had to purchase everything from his underwear to formals before he could perform.

The star tantrums become bigger and bitter as soon as they step into the foreign land. An interesting issue that comes up during foreign tours is the attention seeking behaviour of our stars. They refuse to accept the fact that their area of fame is restricted only to India and some Asian countries. If they visit some far away country in the west, except few desi fans, not many recognise them. This situation becomes very disturbing for our stars. So, to make their presence felt, our stars throw deadly tantrums. Take Aamir Khan for example. Before he steps out of the airport, Aamir wants his security in place. At one instance, he didn’t leave the airport for complete two hours, until two six feet tall white bouncers arrived to escort him to his venue.

But not all plans go so well. Sometimes the stars have to learn it the hard way. Poor Akshay Kumar got trapped in one such tricky situation. For one of his shows Akshay had planned to rise from the audiences and run up to the stage to make a unique entry. But, it turned out that the security in the auditorium wasn’t pre informed about that. As a matter of fact, they didn’t even know that Akshay is Bollywood star who was about to perform that night. As soon as Akki tried to make his way to the stage, the guards stopped him. When he tried to escape towards the stage, they almost handcuffed him. With great difficulty, Akshay finally, managed to break through the handcuffs but at the cost of his jacket being torn by the security in the struggle.

During their stay in foreign countries, there is no limit to the level of wild and stupid behaviour that our stars can get into. During one foreign show Manisha Koirala ran out from her hotel and landed up in a New York discotheque. Even there, she behaved at her idiotic best behaviour demanding the nightspot owners to keep the place open beyond its closing time just for her. Seems like your highness of Nepal wasn’t really convincing enough for the owners as the place shut down at it regular time. She was so angry over this that she left her handbag with her passport and handbag in the cab. Though she now denies remembering this immature behaviour of hers.

Our stars believe that they are no less than the members of a royal family and hence getting a very royal treatment on the tours is their right, no matter whichever part of earth they are at. So, even if they might be used to shooting in the worst of conditions back home, our stars become very particular about the hotel facilities.

The hot babe Mallika Sherawat drove a London Hotel staff crazy because she wanted only uncut fresh fruit and brown bread. Now how come the hotel be so careless about Mallika’s demands. Well, maybe they weren’t among those few people who saw her international flick.

A London based organizer confesses that many a times the star moms orders an organizer to even buy sanitary towels for her daughter, or else the actor won’t perform. He puts it humbly though saying that these are certain odds that organizers accept as job hazard.

The poor organizers get badly sandwiched between the tough job of organizing a live concert and even tougher job of fulfilling the demands of the stars. Foreign tours seem to be a brilliant opportunity for our stars to behave at the ugliest best as they are aware that they safely away from the paparazzi and fans who look up to them.

Besides, tours allow them to make dim-witted demands which they are aware will get fulfilled anyhow. They, thus, emphasize the fact about them being ‘celebs’ who are extraordinary species and hence

Продолжается тянучка насчет "кто сыграет роль Сонии Ганди?". Продюссеры уже выбрали режиссера - Jag Mundhra, а так же желают на роль Сонии либо девушку по имени Carla Gugino, либо Прети Зинту. Сам же режиссер хотел бы на эту роль Айшварию. Она недавно закончила съемки в его фильме Provoked, на который режиссер возлагает большие надежды. Интересно, что сценарий для фильма о Соние Ганди напишет тот же автор, что написал сценарий к Provoked. Что из этого всего выйдет, пока не ясно.

Ash And Abhishek To Marry?

The latest story that is making the rounds in Bollywood is the romance between Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai. Reportedly, Vrinda Rai, Ash’s mom and Jaya Bachchan have met and discussed a possibility of turning their relationship into something more personal. It is also believed that Abhishek’s mom consulted their family pandit with the couple’s horoscope. Apparently, Bachchan Jr. and Ash’s friendship began on the sets of their film, Kuch Na Kaho. It is said, even when she was going around with Vivek, Ash continued to keep in touch with Abhishek. But it was on the sets of Umrao Jaan in Jaipur, the two realized they had deeper feelings for each other.

Rumour has it that, Jr. B had sometime back confessed his feelings for Ash to some close friends. In Fact, she was a huge moral support for him in the days when Amitabh was hospitalised and they were constantly in touch on the phone.

Although, there are rumours of a link-up between Abhishek and Rani Mukherji, close sources have denied any such thing between the two. According to the grapevine, Jaya Bachchan doesn’t believe Rani is the right match for him. However, all said and done, the news seems to be far from true.

Обычная манера инд. кинодиллеров спаривать актеров для лучшего продвижения фильма. А у Айш и Аби несколько фильмов на подходе. Кстати, "Умрао Джан" практически отснят уже.
Ну и канеш на желтых сайтах немедленно пишут, что Джая и мама Айшварии гороскопы детей сверяют...

Впрочем, я не против... у Айшварии всегда были очень хорошие отношения с Баччанами.

Tabu will now be seen in a mature love story opposite none other than Amitabh Bachchan. The film, which is an untitled venture, will be directed by ad man R Balakrishan and is a poignant love story between an older man and a younger woman. Tabu will play the Big B's love interest. Both the actors were supposed to work together in a film about a father-in-law and daughter-in-law some years ago, but somehow the project never materialized. Time to say goodbye to hiatus, Tabu?

Aamir-Kajol to fly off to Poland!

Soon Aamir Khan and Kajol along with all the cast and crew of Kunal Kohli's forthcoming 'Fanaah' will fly off to Poland for shooting. Though Kajol, who's making a comeback in this film after a big hiatus, leaving Mumbai with her daughter, Aamir Khan's new-wed wife Kiran Rao, however, will wait in Mumbai for Aamir to return.
Kajol's hubby Ajay Devgan, busy with his shooting, also has no scope to accompany his wife in Poland. So Aamir-Kajol will romance, of course on-screen, without any oversees. Right!

'Provoked' to premiere at Cannes 2006

Aishwarya Rai's tryst with Cannes continues. This time her film Provoked, based on the real-life story of a battered wife, Kiranjit Ahluwalia, will be premiered at the Cannes film festival in May.

Producer Dr. J. Murli Manohar evidently has big plans for the film. “Provoked is being distributed by an independent American company, Lee Daniels Entertainment, the same company that distributed the Halle Berry starrer, Monster's Ball.”

He says, “In fact there are some striking similarities between the two housewives played by Aishwarya Rai and Halle Berry. Both films are about a woman's struggle for dignity. My director Jagmohan Mundra and I are hoping that Provoked gets a response similar to Monster's Ball in the West.”

Along with Provoked, Dr. Manohar's other film, Infinite Justice will also premiere at Cannes. This film telles the story of the assassination of American journalist Daniel Pearl. “So it's two bio-pics for us at Cannes this year,” he says.
