The last few days has witnessed a number of stories pertaining to the ‘cold war’ between Bachchan Sr. and SRK. In fact, a section of the media has gone ballistic, claiming that the entire SRK camp, including Karan Johar, has decided to boycott the forthcoming I.I.F.A. Awards in Dubai. But it’s far from true!
In fact, the music of Karan’s eagerly-awaited KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA will be unveiled during the I.I.F.A. weekend, on June 16 to be precise. While SRK and Preity Zinta wouldn’t be present at the event, Karan along with Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji will launch the music amidst the global media.
Sure, the Bachchans and Karan Johar must be laughing at the gullible desk-job journos!
All is not well between Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh since last year. The reason is Abhishek's increasing popularity among both sexes.
The story has a new twist. Shah Rukh decided at the last moment that he didn't want to grace the event because Amitabh Bachchan is the brand ambassador for the event.
With Shah Rukh pulling out at the last moment, the IIFA organizers in desperation have approached Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta to perform.

Shah Rukh in London for Kabhi Alvida music release 12th June 2006 21.30 IST By Nikhil Kumar
The music album of Karan Johar’s forthcoming film Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna will first be released in London.
It is for the first time the music album of a Dharma productions film is being released overseas. More than this, the music of ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’ will have two releases – first in London, and then in Dubai on June 16, Friday, during the IIFA Festival and awards.
Preparations are already in full swing at Barclay Hotel in Mayfair, London, to release the album at the beginning of this week. Shah Rukh Khan is already there with his wife and son. Although SRK is primarily in London for a holiday with his family, he will attend the music launch function there. Besides the music launch, there will be an audio-visual screening followed by interaction with the media.
From the movie, only Karan Johar and SRK will be in London.
The movie’s other stars – Abhishek Bachchan , Rani Mukherjee , Preity Zinta and Amitabh Bachchan – will be at the music launch in Dubai.
The launch in Dubai will particularly be a lavish one.
Besides the music launch at IIFA, Karan will also host a stage show there on the lines of his show Koffee With Karan. In the show, Karan will interview film celebrities, most likely from his own movie, before a gathering of audience.
After this Q and A session, there will be a fashion show by Manish Malhotra .
One exceptional thing about the music albums of KANK is that they will be priced very reasonably.
Reports have it that the film’s music CDs (Sony) will be priced at Rs 99. And along with it the buyers will get a free CD promo of the movie.
Karan says the idea behind such low prices is to cut through piracy and make the film’s music available to as many fans as possible.

As you stroll into the ballroom of the Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge, a shiver runs down your spine and a cold breeze welcomes you in a most unique way. The title track of Karan Johar's highly anticipated Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (Never Say Goodbye) soothingly wraps itself around each guest like a soft mist and gathers everyone in its grasp with each crescendo. The mirrored ceiling reflects gazes of interest, curiosity and the larger than life images of the films protagonists, each one immersed within frosty overtones hiding cracked relations that threaten to destroy the very fabric of family bonds. As any avid film fan will know, this theme is a major departure from Karan Johar's usual bubblegum romance ventures.
Whereas the dйcor was an ice palace of emotions that could engulf all in an inferno that would be wrought with emotion, the highlight of the venue was the presence of the director himself, his main actor Shah Rukh Khan and a special 'First Look' promo of the film which highlighted why this film is so special and its release a bold and important step forward in Indian cinema.
The First Look is a gripping kaleidoscope of moving pictures from the forthcoming movie which highlight the subject matter: what happens if you marry not for love, but for another reason and then when you're settled in your married life you meet the person you've been waiting for all your life – your soul mate. Glimpses of highly inspiring performances by Shah Rukh, Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherji stood out from this promo as did the music of the film, which continues the tradition of Dharma Productions to provide both soothing scintillating melodies that capture the essence of the film with a few real rocking tracks to dance to as well, but all hinged on the emotional thread that holds the subject matter together.
The highlights of the soundtrack were definitely the title track and Mitwa, a cocktail of sufi-rock that bellows to its listener in no uncertain terms what it is wanting. After introductions by Sophiya Haque and Sony BMG, Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan spoke of the film and its music to a packed room of media representation. Karan clarified the film is not inspired by the Hollywood film Closer, as the rumor mill has fuelled and stated this would be most apparent once the film releases, and he also confessed this was a risky subject matter for Indian cinema but a story that needed to be told.
Shah Rukh stated that the film was a risquй subject but then affairs are not uncommon among any group of people whatever their ethnic background. He also joked about the titles bestowed on him such as King of Bollywood and claimed this was played down given he is the Emperor of Bollywood, adding that such accolades are attributed to status in the current market against a star's track record over a period of time rather than fictional titles adopted by egotistic actors.
After a photo call and rush to get last minute questions, the press was left to bask in the mood of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna which is both, somber and upbeat, emotional and hurtful yet truthful. Two things were clear by the end of this very special music launch: That KANK is full of music that takes you on a journey that like life, has many twists, turns and variety and secondly that this film is all set to be the most important film of the year. Because it's from the heart… with an edgy honesty.
The music of KANK is out now on CD with a special bonus of the First Look also featured on the disc and the film releases worldwide in August 2006.
Here's a new strategy. Karan Johar has planned to release the music of his forthcoming release Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, without airing the musical promos on television. Karan released the music in London on Sunday, he will have one more official launch at the International Indian Film Academy Awards on June 16.
When contacted Karan says, “We wanted to release the music in this fashion because there already is a hype surrounding the film. We wanted the audience to stumble upon the songs instead of experiencing it through musical promos on television.”
“I will air the music promos a week after its release, on June 23,” says Karan. So, what's the music of KANK all about? “Our music is about soul and energy,” he replies.
The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) in Dubia will see more than the handing out of a few awards. There will be the world premiere of Jagmohan Mundhra's Provoked starring Aishwarya Rai, it will also host the Indian launch of music soundtrack to Karan Johar's much awaited Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna as well as a sneak preview of ace actor Naseeruddin Shah's directorial debut Yun Hota to Kya Hota.
A three-day film festival of top films in various Indian languages will be held in addition. Some of the films to be screened include Tamil films Chandramukhi, Kannathil Muthamittal, Nayakan, Anniyan and Autograph and Malayalam films Rasathantram and Kazhcha. Among the horde of Hindi superstars, South Indian superstars Mammooty, Mohanlal, Kamal Haasan, Madhavan, Meera Jasmine and Simran are expected to attend the event as well.
Some of the other films to be screened are Marathi film Dombivali Fast and Hindi films Yahaan, No Entry, Iqbal, Hazaaron Khwahishen Aisi, Parineeta, Bluffmaster, Veer-Zaara, Let's Talk and Mixed Doubles.
Aishwarya Rai, who last year performed Kajra Re from Bunty Aur Babli with the father-son Bachchan duo, will be in Dubai for only a day for the premiere of her film Provoked, flying in from Chenni in the morning and returning in the evening, as she is in the midst of shooting for Mani Ratnam's Guru.
Sabbas Joseph, IIFA spokesman, said the institution has grown from 'One Amazing Night' to a superb three-day weekend that celebrates and hosts various events and activities. While committed to its objectives, IIFA also strives to reach out to various audiences and create platforms unique in nature, he added.
Unfortunately, there will be a huge gap in the constilation of stars gathered in Dubai, as 'King Khan' Shah Rukh Khan is currently on a much needed and deserved holiday in London following the completion of the Don shoot in Malaysia. He had promised his family this holiday quite sometime back, therefore was keen to keep his promise.
Shah Rukh compered the last show in Amsterdam, arriving in a horse-drawn carriage, speaking in Surinamese, the language spoken by many Surinamese of Indian ancestry.

Mumbai, June 15: The muscles from Brussels makes no attempt to conceal his assets. Dressed in a pair of mauve trousers and a white body shirt, Jean-Claude Van Damme is this year’s international cameo at the International Indian Film Academy Awards in Dubai.
The well-known action figure never shies away when asked about his body. ‘‘I was born a skinny young boy and started working out at the age of eleven. When I used to look at superheroes in comics, I always aspired to be like them,’’ says the 45-year-old, in his trademark, heavily accented English. He loves being in shape and has often been told that his butt ought to be insured. Fans of the show Friends will remember an episode in which he made a guest appearance, where Monica and Rachel discuss his lesser-known ability to crack open a nut between his butt cheeks.
‘‘I know I have a good body,’’ he laughs. These days, he works out with his 19-year-old son. ‘‘That way I can even have some fun,’’ says the star of cult hits like Timecop and Universal Soldier. He’s recently completed a couple of projects—Till Death and The Hard Cops, but admits that mindless action doesn’t hold his interest any longer. ‘‘The kind of films I want to do now, should also have an acting element, where I can showcase my talent,’’ he adds.
The actor who first shot to international fame with Bloodsport, admits that doing a fight sequence is a hypnotic experience. ‘‘When I’m fighting in a film, I’m not myself anymore. I go into a complete trance and feel like I’ve been endowed with superhuman powers,’’ he says.
A guest at IIFA, Van Damme will present the Best Actress award at the main ceremony. He plainly confesses to being a Bollywood fan and was blown away after watching Devdas a while back. ‘‘I was talking with an Indian producer about making a film in India and I asked to see some of their work. The way that both the dance sequences and acting scenes are filmed is so aesthetic,’’ he gushes, adding that Shah Rukh Khan’s one of his favourite Indian actors.
Van Damme feels that Indian cinema has a lot more spirituality than Hollywood and says that creatively there’s little he could contribute. Nevertheless, he’s keen to be cast in a Bollywood film. Though he’s never traveled to India, his friend Ashok Amritraj keeps him well-stuffed with parathas and curries. Apart from being a fitness fanatic, his other obsession is food. ‘‘I can’t remember the names of all the Indian dishes but they’re delicious,’’ he says. One area he feels that he lacks talent in, is stocking a stylish wardrobe. ‘‘When I’m doing a film, I just put on a pair of track pants and go on. I know that public appearances are very important, and my father keeps saying that I should dress better.’’ Honestly, we wouldn’t mind if he turned up in nothing at all.

All of Mani Ratnam’s films are known for their hard hitting themes and the detailing that goes into them. This time too, the director has outdone himself by creating one of the grandest sets ever created, for his forthcoming film, Guru. The set, erected in Chennai, depicts Mumbai of the 1950s. The art director, Sameer Chanda has done extensive research and given attention to the minutest of details. It is complete with trams, houses and junior artists in costumes of that era. The exact location of the set is still a well-guarded secret. However, people who have managed a sneak peek can’t stop raving about it.

Have you ever imagined what Mumbai would have looked like in the 1950's?
Trams on the road, buildings, people and the very atmosphere exuding a sense of the old world charm… That is precisely what ace director Manirathnam has brought alive in his forthcoming film, Guru. The Mumbai of the 1950s.
With Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Maddy and Vidya Balan in the lead roles, sources reveal that the film traces the life of the Ambanis.
A majority of the shoot is complete, with only two weeks' worth of shooting left.
Known for his meticulous precision for detail, Manirathnam was intent on painting a picture of Mumbai before the 1960s. And when an image of a certain vision sits with explicit clarity in the mind of a director like Mani, there is no room whatsoever for compromise.
Huge sets at the YMCA grounds in Chennai have been erected expressly for this purpose, with art director Samir Chandar calling the shots. The sets are massive, to say the least, and the vista presented, lifelike.
Old world roads have been laid out, trams have been built, and even the costumes are a replica of the times gone by. The sets and the setting look so authentic, that a lucky few who caught a glimpse of the sets, are spellbound by its sense of realism. In fact, most people are not aware of the existence of such a setting, including a majority of the unit of the film.
Manirathnam has taken time out to explain the magnitude of the location only to Abhishek, who trade experts believe is lucky to have landed with such an exquisite and unique character.
We are told that Abhishek's character starts in the year 1959, when he is 20 years old, and the film traces his life till he is 65. The older Abhishek Bachchan in the film has been characterized as a rotund personality, for which a special make-up that takes close to four hours to complete has been used in the film. Industry experts say that Guru will certainly be a milestone character for Abhishek Bachchan, and his value in the industry will only shoot upwards.
However, when Mani wanted to shoot a few scenes and a song sequence in Mumbai, Abhishek was forced to decline in fear of the media glare. With scores of rumours doing the rounds about his supposed affair with Aishwarya Rai, he is afraid that a song shot in Mumbai with Abhishek romancing Ash will only add fuel to the rumour mills that are working overtime already. Abhishek has declined a shoot in Mumbai earlier as well, for the film Dhoom 2, and requested the producer to look for an alternate location with the unit ending up in Brazil finally.

KARAN JOHAR knows the secret of success well, the element of surprise. As everyone who still swears by Koffee with Karan eagerly awaits his return to the small screen, he decides to set up his couch on the International Indian Film Academy Awards stage in Dubai and have a cappuccino with pals Lara Dutta, Anil Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh, while the world watches.
The first film from Dharma productions after his father’s demise, Kabhie Alvida Naa Kehna, is under the spotlight at IIFA and it’s an emotional moment for Johar to be standing alone without his mentor. ‘‘If he were here today, he’d probably reprimand Manish and I for spending too much money on costumes,’’ he says, a tad wistfully.
Threading dangerous waters, KANK zooms in on marital infidelity and broken relationships. The ensemble cast features his usual suspects—Shah Rukh Khan as Dev Saran, a sensitive sharp-tongued man who shares an uneasy relationship with the world. Preity Zinta his wife Rhea, successful and confident and the object of her husband’s envy.
Abhishek Bachchan plays Rishi Talwar a fun loving guy who discovers the harsh truths of life when his marriage to Maya (Rani Mukerjee) feels shaky. ‘‘They’ve all worked together before, but this time because the story is about broken marriages, I’ll be in trouble if the audience spots any chemistry between them,’’ he laughs.
Johar’s films are pretty formulaic—four word titles, foreign locations and stories about relationships, but for the director, it’s his security net. ‘‘I wouldn’t be comfortable with anything different, I don’t read too many books or listen to music, I make films on what I observe of life,’’ he says. This time however, New York wasn’t the comfort zone it usually is, as the crew had to pull the schedule through three hurricanes.
The filmmaker admits that some of the actors had concerns about the greyer shades in their characters and even his mother was perturbed by the choice of subject. ‘‘The issue we are handling is very sensitive and cast members were worried about how to portray it sensitively and with dignity. Let’s hope we’re pushing the envelope not tearing it,’’ he adds.
Shah Rukh Khan’s absence from IIFA inevitably rekindles old rumours about his rivalry with the Bachchans. ‘‘Most of these stories are baseless,’’ Johar clarifies, adding that Abhishek was a little let down when he discovered he had only a few scenes with Khan.
Most films with the Karan Johar stamp have celebrated cinema, colour and life, but this one is a more sombre introspection about human relationships.

а меня шокирует то, что у нас уже чуть ли не всю школьную программу по литературе на сидишках выпустили Я еще могу понять взрослых людей, которые "слушают книжки". За рулем, например. (хотя мне такие не попадались) Но что ж нас ждет, если и школьники образовательную программу на слух изучать будут? Так что скоро и у нас, как в Болливуде, не будут стесняцца, говоря, что не любят читать
Радостная весть: на Московском кинофестивале будут показывать фильм Mistress of spices! В кинотеатре Ролан 27 июня и в Иллюзионе 28 июня. Думаю, эта новость обрадует поклонников Айшварии. "Самая бестолковая звезда современного индийского кино Айшвария Рэй ("Навеки твоя", "Девдас") - в дебютной попытке мужа режиссерши сладеньких хитов об индийской диаспоре в Англии - "Играй, как Бекхэм" и "Невеста и предрассудки" - разыграть карту магического реализма на индо-британской почве." Действительно, неприятно читать Фильм, конечно, еще не смотрела, но почему-то складывается ощущение, что его не смотрел и человек это написавший Ощущение это не от того, что обидно за рецензию такую, а от того, что конкретики никакой
